The halls at Microsoft are a bit quieter right now. Aside from newly empty offices there are just fewer people venturing out. People have retreated to their bunkers. Mid-year reviews are due soon, and a lot of folks view these reviews as some of the most important of their careers. Its hard to tell how much is related to performance and how much is actually due to job position, but everyone is irritated to say the least.
The packing has begun. Some offices were empty the first day, as these folks didn’t want to be around at all. Others have been warm and said goodbye.
