Well, we are trying to move rooms again. our balcony is right next to the Theater where they have a 10pm show every night. It’s totally blasting us out of our beds. We will see if they have anything else. it’s a great room except for the brutal volume of the show.
The resort is great otherwise. There are the usual things – We went to the Italian Restaurant for dinner, and as i suspected, the food qas great, but didn’t taste like Italian food. I have seen this a lot in the past where you get food somewhere and it’s obvious that the chef doesn’t know how it should taste. It looks right – but the flavors are all off. The tomato sauces were closer to a Tomato Soup in flavor, and the deserts looked right, but the Cannoli tasted more like an inside out Churro. Not bad actually – but not Italian.
But we are still spending most of the time swimming and hanging on the beach. so who cares really. The beach here is as good as we hoped. The only pool we haven’t gone to so far is the central one with the swim up bar. There are just too many kids there at once to make us want to hang out there. It’s not that I hate kids **checks notes** yeah, I hate kids. You might as well fill the pool with spiders and snakes.
Infinity Pool is still the winner. Not too crowded. Adult only, the Mezcal Palomas never stop coming. I’m still one of those nerds who swims in a UV protective shirt – partially for protection and partially to reduce the glare off my skin for others. I used to be the only one but now it seems to be getting common. I was actually surprised to see that – but since sunscreen is prohibited in many snorkeling areas and cancer really is a bitch, I guess it’s just the new thing. Glad to be a trendsetter.
We still need to book some tours. We get a free city tour as members but with the heat we are probably going to skip that and just get a snorkeling or other boat tour. It all ends up weather dependent in any case. Looks like they have some nice Snorkeling tours . That swim shirt will come in handy again.
I had a major overheating event – this happens sometimes on vacation and I’m pretty aware of it now. With the heat, humidity, and fact that the pools themselves are hot, it gets hard to cool off. We went over to the spa that has a Hydrotherapy pool. It’s simpler than some others, but since it is cold water, i was all in. They have a pattern you are supposed to follow, from a Cold spa, to steam room, to waterfall pool, then warm spa. I was so hot that I literally couldn’t dip into the cold spa. Way too big of a temperature differential for me. But the Cool waterfall pool was perfect. I soaked until I could feel myself returning to a normal temperature then sacked out in the shade for a while. They also had Chlorophyll water and encouraged you to drink lots. It’s supposed to reduce toxins and all that. I’m not so sure but it’s kinda minty and fancy so what the hell. Sometimes the right thing to do on break is nothing at all.
The front desk texted us (yeah, everything is done through Whatsapp. I like it more and more) and tolds us they had a new room for us. After a late lunch and some swimming I was able to get they key code. (it all goes into your wristband. love this stuff) The room was one building away and on the opposite side from the theater. We moved our stuff over and it was so much better. Hopefully we would be able to get some sleep tonight.
For dinner we had reservations at the Japanese restaurant. Expectations were low. But we ended up fairly surprised. The sushi rolls they did were good and fresh – but about double the rice from normal. I ended up ordering 4 orders of sushi. They did a Sunomono salad that wasn’t Sunomono (Marinated Cucumber) but instead was rice noodles with Octopus, Nori seaweed, a little cucumber and some Miso as dressing. it was actually good – but totally not Sunomono. The rest was a resounding Meh – Onion rings for Temupra, Gyoza were something dumpling shaped. but thats fine. I give them props for getting the rolls done well.
We headed back to the room through the theater which had the show going full blast. But the time we went through and into our building it was in the distance. Behind our door it was quiet.
We actually slept.
